Holdenby House
I walked round the site in the morning, whilst Bill scraped the potatoes! After lunch we went to Holdenby House, which turned out to be originally a palace built for Eliz. I by one of her courtiers, only a part remains. Charles I was imprisoned there, and was arrested and taken by the Commonwealth soldiers before the execution took place 18 months later. It was strange walking along a path Charles I walked, and to know he must have seen the same view as we did. We bought some plants - I bought a ‘Whimsy’ cottage from the shop. Went back to the site, hitched up and went home.
