Started off to visit Didcot Railway Museum, calling at Kingston Bagpuize - mainly for the name, but also for the manor house which we didn’t find! We went to Abingdon to find a bank, it took us 3 goes to get in the carpark, only 15p for an hour in a multi-storey! Got to Didcot and finally found way in to the museum! I took some photographs of various engines etc, also butterflies. There was a lot to see, including railway carriages, Princess Elizabeth Pullmans, and some extremely old ones, 1870’s onwards, in various stages of disrepair! A daunting task for the enthusiasts who work on these railway projects. There was a good shop, and we also had lunch there. We rode back and forth in the train, which was kind of nostalgic, and gave us time to rest our feet - you can have as many rides as you like, all inclusive in the ticket. The museum was very good - all GWR stuff - including my jigsaw of the R.G.V. We spent 3 hours there - just a bit long! We then made our way to the Vale of the White Horse, and Uffington Castle, Dragon’s Mound. We duly climbed up, walked round, and looked at. The castle (only the moat & ramparts - ie grass mounds and ditch) are there, Iron Age. We were a bit late getting to Buscot Park, we couldn’t find it at first, but eventually we did. N.T. so free to us, the house contains a room with 4 Burne-Jones paintings on the walls - worth seeing for those alone. We had tea there - first a shortbread & tea, Bill had crisps. We took a photo of a peacock, at least I did; it was my last photograph - automatic re-wind! Had diner out at the Maybush Pub, very good.
