The York Waits
Cooked a large breakfast for all, and Chris did sandwiches, helped by Bill, as we were spending the day at the Battle centre. Saw loads of weapons and jousting, falconry and the York Waits who get everywhere. Very good day. as we had seats in the stand. We visited the exhibition which is excellent, and gives a detailed insight into the weaponry and arrows of 1485, as well as some social history. We went to the Hercules in Sutton Cheney and there partook of fare to replenish our empty stomachs. Went back to the camp site and there to the play. Weather bitterly cold - it seemed indeed to be ‘the winter of our discontent’. Very good interpretation of Shakespeare’s Richard III and the setting with the trees in the background made the whole thing authentic in the comings and goings of the characters. We didn’t really thaw out in spite of a sandwich and coffee in the interval, but enjoyed it all for all that.
