Had a good night’s sleep - it appeared to rain a 1st movement. We went out fairly early and made our way to Long Melford, a very historical village, claimed to be the longest single main street in England - but there is Long Buckby with a similar claim! Bill took pictures of the church, which contains the most medieval window glass in the country. Also, the Duchess of Norfolk is depicted in one of the windows, was the model for the Duchess in Alice in Wonderland, drawn by Tenniel. A curious circle of glass depicts 3 rabbits drawn in such a way as to seem to have two ears each, but in fact only have three between them. I took a picture of a pink cottage called ‘Cherry Tree Cottage’ - the tree wasn’t out in blossom though, so I couldn’t confirm this. I shall buy a cottage for my collection from the church.

The Swan - Lavenham Suffolk
postcard

We visited a book fair, bought some old postcards and had some sandwiches there. I had trouble removing Bill from there - he lost his spectacle case - and I found out I was born on a magic day - 11th and I am a power source! Of course I knew that all along!! P.M. was spent in Lavenham and I ‘ooh’d’ and ‘aah’d’ all over the place - more cottages, medieval, Elizabethan, Georgian and whatever - everywhere! It is really the most beautiful village I’ve seen anywhere. Coach tours there - all nationalities. I did buy a cottage there, of some mews cottages.
