More caravans arrived and I think the site will be full by tonight. We decided to do a tour of the district, ending up at Salisbury. We visited Martin, Daneham, Ringwood, and Rockbourne, a pretty village with many ‘thatches’, and a Roman Villa, which is extensively excavated, going by the museum! There were some jaw bones of Roman field mice - a bit like this (see image) and no bigger.

There was a perfect imprint of a sandal and even the remains of a leather one, found in the well. The downs were pleasant to drive through, it was really hot. In Salisbury, we had lunch in a fish & chip restaurant, which had recently been renovated, and they found the building went right through from one street to another! The seats and tables had been made from pews from a local church which had been demolished. There had been a ghost of an old lady, but she’s evidently taken fright since they rebuilt the place. We visited the King’s House in Salisbury, now a museum, where we had coffee and I had a piece of chocolate cake. Had salad at teatime, after going to Maxine’s Mum’s caravan, where we had a cup of tea. They’d been there since about 2pm. We all walked to a local pub at night called the Woodpecker, and then we all walked back! And so to bed, as Pepys would say!
