Villeréal - a bastide town
Visited Villeréal - a ‘bastide’ town. Quite a few round here as the British owned them, fortified them against the French, and held them until the 100 years war. It must have been a precarious existence, but looking at some of the ‘gens’ of the district - they owe something to their closeness of their ancestors with the English. It got very hot today, and I went to sleep after having a swim and some vin at lunchtime, it was too hot to sunbathe. We don’t like the site much and are unsettled. Still, the food and drink are good!
