Went to Evron to visit the Basilica - one of the most important in France. Notre-Dame de L’Epine. Here is a picture of the Saint in laminated oak and silver (chêre larié d’argent).

Shops were closed, so had a snack and eventually came back to St.Suzanne. Wanted to see the château, so went to village, saw museum, went in and was looking around when an English couple asked us if we’d like to see the joust in the evening. A private affair but as it was in the castle grounds, it was quite open to anyone really. This couple are into Medaeval jousting and dancing, and tour round - it’s a bit like a jumillage (?). The champion chevalier of the joute would be there. We went, and saw a challenge joust between the Champion and another ‘Knight’ representing England. The champion is Swedish we think. He won his beautiful black horse in Paris, winning the world championship. All quite exciting, and later, the people involved in the joust had a medeaval banquet at the café where we decided to eat. They ate off boards, with knives and a finger bowl was taken round between each course, and it was all ‘my-lording’ and that sort of thing as the English knight had won over all, and the champion was acting as ‘mine host’. They had a padré with the English lot - who kept saying a prayer over there all. It was all very jolly and a fitting end to our holiday.
