Started from home at 10:45am en route for France. Used M1, M25 to Chris’s after lunch on M1. Very hot day by the time we reached Aldershot. After greetings - especially from Avalon - we sat in the garden admiring ‘Chariots of Fire’, and after meal, saw Argentina Beat W Germany 3-1. Left C’s at 9pm, got a bit lost on the way - should have turned left for Petersfield. Arrived P’mouth 10pm. Went aboard Duc de Normandie - new ship, very lush. Very nice cabin with shower & loo etc. Had a snack went to bed - in a pink duvet! Slept well, but was awakened with a bell at 5am, queued for rice crispies and coffee, gulped it down and hence to car & caravan. Had trouble in Caen, as we couldn’t find the way out - oh well - it’s all experience - Bill was having nightmares, as there is difficulty in reversing or turning round with the caravan! We managed it in the end and had no trouble locating the camp site in Falaise, which is in the valley with the castle on the mound above. William the Conqueror was born here and there is a large equestrian statue of him in the town hall square - or ‘place de l’liberté’ or something - together with sites Duc’s du Normandie, including a Richard (England’s Richard?) the site is tree shaded and well laid-out with tennis courts and a swimming pool - it’s a Camping Municipal. The sun was lovely earlier on, but cloud has thickened now. Most people seem to be English and going home from the Dordogne, the amusing went up fairly peacefully, with only a few “NO, NOT THAT WAY” from Bill.
