Cloudy start to the day, but eventually we drove to the beach at Kerval - good camp site there - Camping International, I think 4 star. It is a beautiful beach and the water is warm. Came back to our site, had lunch, and some vin, fell asleep! Got roused and went to Quimper (17 kilometer). Went in cathedral - very interesting, as a car was towed away with the police in attendance. We came back to the cathedral later to find the army there, various dignitaries and old soldiers with banners, and a band. Also special soldiers with plumed chapeaus who marched with unsheathed sword. A “personage”1 arrived, and the other dignitaries in uniform, were inspected by him, and then he presented medals to them. Later we walked down a street off the main road by the river, where a barricade had been placed. I stood on this to see better, when the army band replete with drums, trumpets & what have you, marched up this street, making lots of noise; came right up to my barricade - ‘on face’ - I stood my ground, not quite sure if they would march over me or not - but they turned about in front of my nose - some of them made a real hash of turning round, and one trumpeter looked at me and had a giggle - it was all very ‘comique’. We then had a pot of tea (well, we had that first actually) and visited the Breton Museum. Came back and talked about moving to Carnac. Decided we’d try phoning M. Josso first to find out if he was around. A few fireworks at night! Went to a Celtic musee - saw a stone devil disguised as a monk - but his horns showed! We met someone from Leicester - live near the post house. They were on the camp site.

  1. Bill said it was a ‘Generale’.
