Rain in Caen and the tomb of William the Conqueror
Raining! For the first hour or so we ate, etc between the raindrops - Decided to visit Caen - the château etc. We did. Very large château. A school party was going round the museum, exchanged some English words with them - about architecture - they were pleasant children. We ate at Pizza Christiana - chosen for its cheapness and quaintness. Excellent food - but the sweet cost more than the pizza - still it was beautifully arranged and tasted bon! We then walked and walked as there was a street market which took up quite a few streets!
We eventually ended up at the L’abbaye aux Hommes, L’Église Saint Étienne, I’m not quite sure where one ends and the other begins! But the tomb of Guillaume le Conquérant is there - and we didn’t know that, so I’m glad we went there. There was a little old lady who showed us where it was. She was busy sweeping the floor - the mind boggles, it must take all day!
