I’m sitting out on the balcony writing this overlooking the trees in the garden. Bill took the wheel to the garage for mending, it will be ready tomorrow. Didn’t sleep too well, the pompiers went off in the middle of the night, but we had been to Vichy after lunch and when it was cooler. It is a pretty city centre, white, a bit like iced cakes. The spa part is very impressive, Empire era, you can see the water bubbling up, where the original Roman baths were. It costs 70p a glass so we didn’t have any! Outside, there is a lovely tree-lined avenue, where people sit and chat, drinking their Vichy water on typical little white paintele ?? chairs!

There is also a big covered walkway round the park. The stores are lovely and very expensive in the main. There is the casino where the Marshal Pétain signed the - no he didn’t - it was the first meeting of the Vichy Government on 10 July 1940.
