Montmirail château
Decided to do a route from Nogent-de-Rotrou visiting places of interest on the way. The château at Nogent was closed, but we walked round it. Then on to see the Abbey church. Had a sandwich in Nogent & a ‘kit’. Lovely countryside around, a bit like England really. Montmirail was a strange place and a strange presentation - a bit of son et lumiere, visits to the dungeons, complete with skeletons! Then some furnished rooms - and a portrait of Sir Thomas Moore - one I’ve never seen before. That château was the place where Thomas A Becket and Henry II met for the first time in four years. Didn’t do any good though, the King of France started another meeting - but that didn’t work either! Seamur-en-Vallon has a pretty Château but ‘fermé’. Bill cooked a lovely meal with red wine - then we played petanque again.
