Up late, so am catching up with my log, and postcards. Went on the beach and walked out to the island. The bay is more silted up, and there is a lot more seaweed. Bill said the cockle population is down, only juveniles there. Had a sandwich beforehand. Came back to get a meal. Sent Bill to camp shop and started bolognese but Bill didn’t return for ages. He’d had a rather strong beer! We were late meeting Trevor and Wendy in Carnac plage. Sussed out where the ‘actualités’ were going to be - ended up with everyone sitting on the beach - with chants of ‘assis’ if they stood up! There was a re-enactment by the Quimperlé dancers and ‘bagad’ players, of the French Revolution and the part played by Britanny people. This went on for hours, whilst we waited for the ‘spectaculars’ - skiing off a fancy ski-slope, made to look like an aeroplane, down which, ‘hommes varies’ made spectacular somersaults onto a big rubber mattress - unfortunately, no-one spared the mattress with his ski, or precipitated himself into the crowd! When this arrived, finally, at midnight, the fireworks went off as well - so we were trying to watch two things at once, in opposite directions. I stuck with the fireworks - they were different at least! The last rocket was a fantastic flower of peach coloured fire - it must have cost a great deal of francs! Crawled home with hundreds of others. Didn’t need any rocking!
