Château de Durtal
Went shopping this a.m. Afterwards we walked along the river to the town. The water-mill was working, so we took a photo of it. Got to the château in time for the first visit de l’aprés midi. It’s had quite a history. The English burnt it down, the Revolution - cut & cut in half, and when the owner returned from hiding in England, he sold it in three bits! The church had one bit, nuns made a hospital in another, and someone lived in the rest of it. It is a Maison de Retraite now, and is run and paid for by the state - the old 8 infirm and looked after ‘propre’ in France! Bill bought some ‘asticots’ and went fishing after ‘diner’ ee soner. There’s not much else in Durtal except the château and the camp site!
