Rocamadour and Moulin de Cougnaguet
Decided to visit Rocamadour as it is very historic and has a fantastic château, decidedly picturesque, with deep gorges all the way and high rocks, great bastions of rock one side, a deep gorge then the town and the great fortresse rising out of the gorge and the city. We climbed up to the château ramparts and looked over the tower, straight down and down - quite breathtakingly terrifying. But before we arrived, we turned off at a sign advertising an ancient moulin - one fortified, called Moulin Fortifie de COUGNAGUET XIVè siècle. Monks ran it, and it’s unusual insofar as the hill wheel ran flat - Bill said, like a turbine. Apparently it had to be fortified because in hard times it got attacked! Cistercian monks UNREADABLE it. There’s a barrage (?) there, and apparently the water generates as much power as a 9 hp motor. It worked alright. We had some hair-raising roads to manipulate - at least Bill did!
