Grottos and Château at Châteaudun
Went to Chartres to see the Cathedral. Very impressive - the glass is fantastic. Quite a large town, we lost our way and couldn’t find our way out, only with difficulty. We had lunch in the railway buffet - a bit up market from English ones!! Watched the trains go by to Paris. Moved on, when we found out how - to Châteaudun, and as it was market day, it took ages to park the car. I waited in the little park. Then we walked down to the ‘grottes’. The ‘guardian’ there was very nice to us and showed us info on the caves. He also told us that a Châteaudun cyclist was second at this stage of the Tour de France. He also spoke slowly in the grottos so that we could understand.

We also visited the Château de Châteaudun, built from the stone underneath in the caves we saw. Mushrooms used to be grown in the caves, and during the war, the Germans used them as ammunition dumps.
The Château is very beautiful, with many ‘tapis’ on les murs, also there seemed to be a superfluity of old carved chests; it’s very well preserved and we had a guide to take us round.
The North Rose Window - Notre Dame de la Belle-Verrière. The South Rose Window - Façade ouest, verrière central. L’Annonciation, Visitation de la Vierge Marie à sa cousine Elisabeth; Nativité de Jesus.
When we got back and had eaten - Bill suddenly disappeared from view - his seat gave way - I did laugh! Especially as I’d told him to buy a new one!
