Rochefort and camping on pavement
Said goodbye to Pauline & George, after exchanging addresses and photographs! We all left Cognac; we headed for La Rochelle, and they were heading for Holland and home. After going round Rochefort we found a large hypermarket by mistake, so were able to obtain petrol, buy some provisions and get a meal in the cafeteria - very hot day. When we finally found the campsite - at one stage we nearly embarked for the Isle-de-Re! - we were given plot 52 which is next to the ladies douche and the tap. We are parked on the trottoir so the lady next door lent us a very large nail with which to make holes so the pegs go in easier! Very peculiar - we’ve never camped on the pavement before - it’s an earth and stone pavement - not tar macadam! It’s a good thing we put up the awning as it thundered etc and poured with rain - so for once my fridge didn’t get waterlogged - we didn’t bother with the awning in the Dordogne - it was never dry enough to put it up! Excellent site, very good facilities even though it’s only a Camping Municipal 2-star.
